Nobody likes doing the work. Given the choice between doing the work and just about anything else, we would all rather do just about anything else. I like working, but if I could read books all day, or study Japanese, or go surfing even if I learn I suck at it, or wander the world aimlessly, I would rather do those things than the work. But nobody is paying me to do those things, and I need money, so I have to do the work.
The work doesn’t have to be awful. If it is, you’re doing the wrong kind of work. When you find the right kind of work, it’s kind of fun. Not playing-beach-volleyball-with-your-friends fun, but if you stop thinking about doing the work and just start doing it, you can lose track of time in a good way.
Not everyone gets to love their job, and even the people who do have parts of it they don’t. The reality is most of us are just content with the work we do because the things that we love to do aren’t profitable enough to earn a living. If you love what the work allows you to do, that’s enough. You don’t have to be a gung-ho entrepreneur. It’s not a bad thing to live a simple life.
If we have to do the work, let’s do our best and get it done as fast as we can, because the sooner we get it done, the sooner we get to have fun.
